Indianapolis—
Work on the city's new massive downtown development project officially got underway Wednesday.
Mayor Ballard helped to break ground on the newly named CityWay development at Delaware and South Streets. Formerly known as North of South, the construction will link neighborhoods and businesses on the city's near south side with the core of downtown.
The community will feature a world class business hotel, several hundred high-end apartments, 40,000 square feet of retail space and a brand new YMCA.
"This is a critical area of downtown and hopefully this is going to spur even more development throughout the city to the west probably on South Street and to the east along Virginia Avenue and the Cultural Trail towards Fountain Square," Ballard said.
Construction should be complete in a few years.
The Dolce hotel is expected to open in January of 2013.
