The 209-room hotel being built near Eli Lilly and Co.'s headquarters will be called The Alexander, in honor of Alexander Ralston, the Scottish architect-engineer who helped lay out the design for Indianapolis in 1820.
The hotel, which will open in the fall, is part of the CityWay mixed-use project at South and Delaware streets being developed by Buckingham Cos. The hotel operator is Dolce Hotels and Resorts, of Rockleigh, N.J.
Dolce said The Alexander will be its new model for urban hotels that will blend a conference hotel with a "center-city lifestyle."
The hotel will cater to business travelers from Lilly and other corporate users and will include 16,000 square feet of meeting space, a full-service restaurant and a 2,200-square-foot lounge.
The $155 million CityWay project spans eight blocks of former Lilly parking lots and will also include apartments, office space and restaurants. A YMCA fitness facility also is planned across South Street.
