CityWay – The Beginning
CityWay first opened in 2013 with phase 1. They are located on the southeast side of downtown, just minutes from Bankers Life, Lucas Oil, Circle Center Mall, and Monument Circle. They were the first living community to offer luxury living in downtown Indianapolis. They have completely reshaped the idea of downtown living. Phase 2 includes a 13-story tower, a brand-new CVS pharmacy, Taxman Brewery, even more amenities, and additional buildings that are under construction on the campus.
My Cityway Experience
I got to stay in the huge new tower – which easily has the best views of the skyline in the city. Upon my arrival, I was enamored with how huge the community truly is. They like to refer to it as a campus, which you almost feel like you’re on a college campus. Everything is at your fingertips! Parking in the garage made it easy. We were welcomed with a tour of the facility. If you are even remotely considering renting at CityWay, I highly recommend meeting for a tour.
The leasing office is spacious, modern and almost has a tech-office vibe to it. We ventured over to the common areas. We started in the gym. Guys, I was completely blown away. Not only do they have state of the art equipment (and – ahem – you are across the street from the nicest YMCA I’ve ever been to), but they also have multiple peloton bikes. Yeah, those crazy expensive but oh-so-worth it spinning classes you’ve seen all over Instagram? What an amazing amenity to offer their residents! After the gym, we walked over to another lounge and got to experience their sports simulator. Yes, you read that correctly. You can play anything from hockey to basketball. I think it would be a great spot to rent out for the night and have some friends over for some competitive fun.
It was a bit chilly out, otherwise you probably would have found me checking out new infinity pool and grilling out.
Once we made it over to the big tower, I got to tour the one-bedroom apartment that I would be staycationing in. The building is super secure – something to pay attention especially when you’re a solo female like myself, living alone. Upon walking in, I fell in love with the quartz countertops, the white subway tile kitchen backsplashes, and not to mention the floor to ceiling windows. The view is nuts. The apartment I stayed in faced north, so I was able to catch a beautiful sunset that evening followed by a breathtaking sunrise in the morning.

Cityway Indianapolis One-Bedroom
I brought my friend Britney for a lovely girls’ night in. One we got settled, we were treated to a calming massage from our lovely masseuse, Beth. My favorite thing about CityWay is the fact that you are right in the middle of everything. We walked about 300 feet from the tower door over to the bar, Plat 99 at the Alexander Hotel. Plat 99 has a very cozy and eclectic vibe to it. I highly recommend Plat 99 for cocktails. Check out the art while you are at the Alexander, too!

Art is very important to the CityWay developers. They commissioned three incredible artists, Nick Walker, Kelsey Montague, and Mantra for different murals, graffiti, and interior art. My favorite piece is the butterfly mural by Mantra. It looks like a shadowbox of butterflies. I hope the interest with the artist investment grows and that CityWay considers commissioning local artists for future exhibits. Their art is a fantastic addition to the downtown neighborhood.

After cocktails, we walked back to the apartment and got settled in for the night. One of the perks of being a CityWay resident is that you can call over “room service” from the Alexander hotel. They deliver it straight to your door! We enjoyed a nice dinner and passed out promptly at 10 pm. Aren’t we just wild?

I did manage to catch the sunrise in the morning, and it was spectacular. We woke up and walked over to Yolk, which is a great spot for brunch. After some delicious pancakes and a few cups of coffee, it was time to head home.

I absolutely loved my mini staycation at CityWay and highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for a place to call home in the heart of downtown.

1. We have lived at CityWay for over a year. We chose the Onyx floor plan for the open-concept kitchen and living room, as well as the number of large windows to allow in all the natural light. And the balcony is a nice plus too!
2. When we’re not enjoying everything that the Mile Square has to offer, and the greater Downtown area, we enjoy visiting Broad Ripple. Between the local restaurants, bars, shops, Broad Ripple Park and more, it is always a fun trip. With the Red Line now in operation and riding Pacer’s bikes on the Monon, getting to Brip is a breeze!
3. We have been Indy Eleven season ticket holders since 2015, the team’s inaugural season. It has been exciting to watch the support for the team grow each year. We love supporting a professional soccer team in Indy and are excited for the future of the club.
4. Our favorite amenity that CityWay has to offer is the wonderful green spaces and public grills. We particularly are excited for the new outdoor kitchen space and firepits with CityWay 2.0. We really enjoy being outside with our two dogs, and CityWay has provided us with a lovely space to enjoy the city. Plat 99 is our favorite retailer — from morning coffees to evening cocktails, Plat 99 is the perfect corner café and bar. We can go there for date night or out with friends, because a visit there is always fun and relaxing.

]]>Want to utilize your windowsill space? Try basic herbs like basil, rosemary, mint, ginger, cilantro, or parsley. If you have counter space in your kitchen, this is the perfect location for these little plants. Plus, when it’s time to harvest your goods, you don’t have to go far!
Have balcony or patio space? Try growing a plant that needs ample sunlight and a little more room like tomatoes or a dwarf fruit tree. You can get different kinds of dwarf trees like apple, lemon, or orange easily. These outdoor plants may need a little more care-taking, so be ready to take on a challenge.
Don’t have a great space for natural light in your apartment? Buy a mushroom growing kit online to get started. You don’t have to do much, and you can enjoy fresh mushrooms from your apartment home.
This spring we hope we can spark some ideas and that you can to grow some delicious fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs right at home. It’s easy and a great hobby to get started. Happy growing!

]]>We understand moving is stressful no matter how much you prepare. Whether you’re moving across the hall or across the country, there are many steps you should take before packing all your valuables in boxes. As experts in the art of a smooth move, read on for our top tips when it comes to moving.
First, there are many factors to consider when moving. Do you need a moving truck? Are you moving into a smaller space? A bigger space? How far are you moving? These are just a few of the factors to consider when making arrangements. Depending on your situation, you’ll need to adjust your game plan.
Before you move, purge anything you haven’t used within the past year. Moving truck space is valuable because it’s finite. If you can’t fit something, you either need a bigger truck or it’s not worth bringing. Plan to donate or trash several items in the weeks before your move. Getting rid of a few items is a win-win situation: the more you decide you don’t need, the less you have to move.
Once you have consolidated your belongings down to the essentials, you can begin packing. Our tip: pack room-by-room. For example, if you pack your dining room materials together, you’re more likely to have a smooth transition and not misplace items along the way. When you get to your new space, you’ll know everything “dining” is together. This way, if you don’t have time to unpack everything immediately, you can easily prioritize what to unpack first.
For belongings that can fit in a box, we suggest purchasing cardboard moving boxes. Using boxes you already own can be tempting, but often aren’t as sturdy and are difficult to carry. Moving boxes are great for stacking and can uniformly fit in a moving truck or car. Be sure to label every box on the top and at least one side so you can easily spot your organized boxes every time. Also, use smaller boxes for heavier items. When you put heavy items in large boxes, it can be tempting to fill the box to the point where it becomes too heavy to carry.
Aside from packing, there are a few steps you will need to take to make sure your bills and other utilities are covered during the move. Try scheduling your disconnect times so you are strategically covered in both homes with as little overlap as possible. Sometimes your apartment home management will take care of this for you, but you should always double check. You should also change your permanent address before you move so you continue to get any outstanding bills at the correct location.
Want a pain-free moving experience? Try using a professional moving company! If you’re looking for suggestions, contact our leasing center and we can provide assistance. We hope this has been a helpful guide and we wish all our residents (past, present and future) a successful move!

]]>When it comes to searching for a place to live, it helps to remember that you're not just searching for a home or apartment, but you're also becoming part of a neighborhood. If you're thinking about moving to Indianapolis, you are definitely looking for a neighborhood that best fits your lifestyle within an urban setting.
According to Budget Dumpster, Indianapolis is fast becoming a hub for business and innovation. As a thriving metropolitan city for work, play and education, the city has a number of attractive neighborhoods that anyone would love to live in. Here are some of the top neighborhoods in Indianapolis and a few reasons why more people are moving and living in the Indianapolis area.
CityWay
CityWay is an all-inclusive, charming neighborhood, offering a new vibe to downtown Indianapolis living. Located at the doorstep of the city’s top entertainment spots and professional sports venues, CityWay inspires a new kind of lifestyle. Designed as a neighborhood to connect downtown Indy to Lilly’s campus, CityWay offers a medium to downtown living with a suburban feel by including what people need and want in a living situation.
With modern apartments, a world-class business hotel: The Alexander, posh restaurants, modern office space, retail shops, vibrant nightlife and conference and event space, CityWay is a one of a kind neighborhood that’s located in the heart of a bustling city. The location is convenient being within an active community, by having the Irsay Family YMCA at CityWay adjacent to the complex, and living in the heart of the city’s nightlife, including Plat99 and Cerulean within the CityWay community. CityWay simply offers an entirely new lifestyle experience in Indianapolis.
What Makes a Neighborhood Great?
There are components and features common to all great neighborhoods. As you compare different neighborhoods, you’ll want to match them to your specific needs.
- Lifestyle Match – According to an online article on choosing the right neighborhood, you should consider your current lifestyle and needs when choosing a neighborhood to live in. Does it match your daily lifestyle? You might love a home you just viewed, but if the neighborhood doesn't match your lifestyle, you’ll not be happy or fully comfortable with living there. For example, you don’t go to the grocery once week, but rather stop by the store every night on your way home to gather items for dinner that night. If your new home isn’t conveniently accessible to a grocery store, you won’t be happy there because it would affect your daily lifestyle.
- Outdoor Activities – Having access to the outdoor activities you love can make a neighborhood even more attractive to live in. The Indianapolis Cultural Trail provides access across downtown for jogging, running, cycling, or taking your dog out for a stroll. The numerous green spaces and parks located throughout the city also allow you to enjoy the great outdoors. Easy access and proximity to swimming pools and clubs, tennis courts, basketball courts and golf courses also make a neighborhood great.
- Close-Knit Community – Everyone wants to live in a friendly neighborhood. Neighborhoods like CityWay and Library Square, where you can live, work and play within a close-knit community are a great attraction for anyone looking for locations that offer more than just a great place to live. Close-knit communities offer opportunities to network, make new friends and socialize.
Other components that make a neighborhood great include access to quality medical care, low crime rate, proximity to public transport, access to shopping centers, walkability, active nightlife and entertainment and much more.
The Bottom Line
According to Sublet Alert, a company that offers sublet monitoring services for Airbnb properties, choosing the right neighborhood is not only good for you, but it’s also important for your property. Indianapolis is the ultimate go-to destination for young buyers or renters who are looking for a combination of great living, employment opportunities and arts & entertainment.
For over 34 years, Buckingham has been providing apartment and community amenities to clients across the nation with numerous multifamily, senior and student housing options. As a full-service real estate firm that has departments in construction, development, acquisition and property management, Buckingham has been building and shaping neighborhoods and their communities for years, and isn’t planning on pausing any time soon.

Catherine and Andrew joined us for a little Q&A with their adorable kitty, Louie.
How long have you lived at CityWay? What floor plan did you choose? Why?
We have lived at CityWay for about six months. We chose the Crimson floor plan because we love having the second bedroom for family and friends to use when they visit us!
What do you love most about CityWay?
Our favorite part is the location! We love how close we are to downtown and all the fun events at Bankers Life and Lucas Oil. On nice days, we love walking to Mass Ave. for dinner. Finally, we love exploring The Alexander for a drink or going to Yolk for brunch!
What is one think that no one knows about you?
One thing people don't know is that our cat, Louie, is named after our hometown of St. Louis, Missouri!
