"Art is all around at The Alexander in Indianapolis. The focal point of the lobby’s living room is Sonya Clark’s Madam CJ Walker II, made of 3,400 hair combs."

The Alexander Hotel lobby featuring art

"The Alexander, which boasts of being “the only hotel in the world to be curated from the ground up by an accredited art museum,” assembled its collection with help from Veronica Roberts, former Adjunct Associate Curator of Contemporary Art at The Indianapolis Museum of Art. New installations are added regularly to the collection, which now numbers more than 275 works. Even the parking garages have commissioned art on display; British graffiti artist Nick Walker created large-scale murals throughout CityWay’s two parking garages."

Naptown no longer, Indianapolis has become a hub for residents and visitors alike to explore. "Opened in 2013, The Alexander Hotel was developed as a joint venture with the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Art-themed hotels weren’t new, but the collaboration set it apart, as did the collection. Its crown jewel, however, may be the bar, Plat 99, designed by the Cuban-born artist Jorge Pardo, hung with 99 colorful, hand-molded acrylic lamps. The menu includes pick-me-ups like a latte made with doughnut milk for $6 (that’s milk in which doughnuts have been soaked) and a cocktail made with two kinds of local moonshine for $12."

"Many hotels have art, but the art at the 209-room Alexander — made by local, national and international artists — is installed museum-style, with identifying wall texts. The downtown location puts you right in the city’s heart and close to Fountain Square, and the bar, designed by the MacArthur “genius grant” winner Jorge Pardo, is one of Indy’s most fashionable spots come nightfall (333 South Delaware Street; thealexander.com; doubles from $159)."

Pet of the Month: Frankie the Bunny

It is no surprise that CityWay puts our pets first! Not only do we have two dog parks plus an abundance of free-roaming green space, but we love to accommodate all types of pets within our community. Which only makes sense that our Pet of the Month is Frankie the Bunny!

Adopted from IndyCLAW, Frankie is a Lionhead rabbit with a soft mane and strong back legs. Frankie gets a small salad every day, which he hopes includes cilantro–that's his favorite!

When he is out of his cage, Frankie loves to hide in the maze between his bag of pellets, hay, and litter–yes, he is litterbox trained! Frankie has learned that his mom will give him a treat if he bites on the bars of his cage enough. He spends most of his time in loaf form in the corner of his cage, but Frankie will perk up his ears to hear the Jonas Brothers. As a small animal, Frankie loves living at CityWay rent-free!

‘Tis the season for giving back! If you are looking for ways to help the Indianapolis animal community this year, check out our donation list for the SouthSide Animal Shelter. All desired items can be donated to the donation boxes in the north and south vestibules.

We hope you all have a joyous holiday season!

Cityway 2.0 Home Tour

CityWay – The Beginning

CityWay first opened in 2013 with phase 1. They are located on the southeast side of downtown, just minutes from Bankers Life, Lucas Oil, Circle Center Mall, and Monument Circle. They were the first living community to offer luxury living in downtown Indianapolis. They have completely reshaped the idea of downtown living. Phase 2 includes a 13-story tower, a brand-new CVS pharmacy, Taxman Brewery, even more amenities, and additional buildings that are under construction on the campus.

My Cityway Experience

I got to stay in the huge new tower – which easily has the best views of the skyline in the city. Upon my arrival, I was enamored with how huge the community truly is. They like to refer to it as a campus, which you almost feel like you’re on a college campus. Everything is at your fingertips! Parking in the garage made it easy. We were welcomed with a tour of the facility. If you are even remotely considering renting at CityWay, I highly recommend meeting for a tour.

The leasing office is spacious, modern and almost has a tech-office vibe to it. We ventured over to the common areas. We started in the gym. Guys, I was completely blown away. Not only do they have state of the art equipment (and – ahem – you are across the street from the nicest YMCA I’ve ever been to), but they also have multiple peloton bikes. Yeah, those crazy expensive but oh-so-worth it spinning classes you’ve seen all over Instagram? What an amazing amenity to offer their residents! After the gym, we walked over to another lounge and got to experience their sports simulator. Yes, you read that correctly. You can play anything from hockey to basketball. I think it would be a great spot to rent out for the night and have some friends over for some competitive fun.

It was a bit chilly out, otherwise you probably would have found me checking out new infinity pool and grilling out.

Once we made it over to the big tower, I got to tour the one-bedroom apartment that I would be staycationing in. The building is super secure – something to pay attention especially when you’re a solo female like myself, living alone. Upon walking in, I fell in love with the quartz countertops, the white subway tile kitchen backsplashes, and not to mention the floor to ceiling windows. The view is nuts. The apartment I stayed in faced north, so I was able to catch a beautiful sunset that evening followed by a breathtaking sunrise in the morning.

Cityway Indianapolis One-Bedroom

I brought my friend Britney for a lovely girls’ night in. One we got settled, we were treated to a calming massage from our lovely masseuse, Beth. My favorite thing about CityWay is the fact that you are right in the middle of everything. We walked about 300 feet from the tower door over to the bar, Plat 99 at the Alexander Hotel. Plat 99 has a very cozy and eclectic vibe to it. I highly recommend Plat 99 for cocktails. Check out the art while you are at the Alexander, too!

Art is very important to the CityWay developers. They commissioned three incredible artists, Nick Walker, Kelsey Montague, and Mantra for different murals, graffiti, and interior art. My favorite piece is the butterfly mural by Mantra. It looks like a shadowbox of butterflies. I hope the interest with the artist investment grows and that CityWay considers commissioning local artists for future exhibits. Their art is a fantastic addition to the downtown neighborhood.

After cocktails, we walked back to the apartment and got settled in for the night. One of the perks of being a CityWay resident is that you can call over “room service” from the Alexander hotel. They deliver it straight to your door! We enjoyed a nice dinner and passed out promptly at 10 pm. Aren’t we just wild?

I did manage to catch the sunrise in the morning, and it was spectacular. We woke up and walked over to Yolk, which is a great spot for brunch. After some delicious pancakes and a few cups of coffee, it was time to head home.

I absolutely loved my mini staycation at CityWay and highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for a place to call home in the heart of downtown.

Check out our Residents of the Month, Ryan and Libby! Read on for some fun facts they shared with us.

1. We have lived at CityWay for over a year. We chose the Onyx floor plan for the open-concept kitchen and living room, as well as the number of large windows to allow in all the natural light. And the balcony is a nice plus too!

2.  When we’re not enjoying everything that the Mile Square has to offer, and the greater Downtown area, we enjoy visiting Broad Ripple. Between the local restaurants, bars, shops, Broad Ripple Park and more, it is always a fun trip. With the Red Line now in operation and riding Pacer’s bikes on the Monon, getting to Brip is a breeze!

3. We have been Indy Eleven season ticket holders since 2015, the team’s inaugural season. It has been exciting to watch the support for the team grow each year. We love supporting a professional soccer team in Indy and are excited for the future of the club.

4. Our favorite amenity that CityWay has to offer is the wonderful green spaces and public grills. We particularly are excited for the new outdoor kitchen space and firepits with CityWay 2.0. We really enjoy being outside with our two dogs, and CityWay has provided us with a lovely space to enjoy the city. Plat 99 is our favorite retailer — from morning coffees to evening cocktails, Plat 99 is the perfect corner café and bar. We can go there for date night or out with friends, because a visit there is always fun and relaxing.

The last time I spent a significant amount of time in the mile square’s southeast corridor was nearly a decade ago. It was a Monday evening, April 5, 2010 to be exact, and the Butler University Bulldogs men’s basketball team were set to play an impressive Duke Blue Devils in the NCAA Tournament Championship Game at Indianapolis’ own Lucas Oil Stadium. Our crew had posted up to tailgate in the designated spot at the corner of South and Delaware streets – one of the city’s many surface parking lots that served adjacent anchor businesses. I distinctly remember the conversation that evening including strong opinions about that specific corridor to the city being full of untapped potential.

Fast forward to over nine years later, my impression of that corner (in the city I love) has become the downtown dweller’s dream neighborhood thanks to a game changing development. How do I know this, you might ask? Because I got the chance to experience it first-hand for myself.

Before I go any further, I must admit that while I sleep in Westfield I’ve always felt strongly that I’m a resident of Indianapolis (where I spend most of my waking hours in my dream role at TechPoint, Indiana’s tech ecosystem growth accelerator, right on Monument Circle. After a unique opportunity to spend 24 hours at Buckingham Company’s premier downtown apartments with my boyfriend, Luke, and poodle, Lambeau, here are four reasons the CityWay of living may be my favorite Indy way of living (and should be yours too).

  1. Perfect Location

The beautiful 10-acre development not only bridges the Eli Lilly and Company campus to the rest of Indy’s central business district, it’s within steps of Bankers’ Life Fieldhouse (where we could even see Bob Seger’s concert light show from our balcony). The superior location makes walking, biking or scootering to explore the local restaurants, breweries and distilleries in Fletcher Place and Fountain Square (Chilly Water Brewery and Hotel Tango Distillery are two of our favorites) so convenient thanks to the direct access to the Indianapolis Cultural Trail and two Pacers Bikeshare installations. The adjacent main roads makes getting on and off the interstate a breeze and the IndyGo bus Transit Center being just two blocks north makes commuting across the city so simple.

  1. Premier Attractions

Being a mixed-use development affords residents the opportunity to not only live, but also play and be entertained right in their own backyard. Cunningham Group’s Nesso Coastal Italia and The Alexander’s Plat 99 Mixology Lounge afford two of the most stylish and trendy date night venues (I highly recommend the scallops and the old fashioned, respectively). To kickstart a morning, CityWay’s multiple on-site gyms (featuring several Peloton bikes, by the way!) or The Irsay Family YMCA is an ideal wellness center with the best workout equipment, fitness classes and suspended running track. Post workout, one can even refuel with plenty of breakfast, coffee and smoothie options between Yolk, Copper Moon Coffee and Nature's Table. For those with four-legged friends, the pet-friendly dog parks and gardens offered the perfect amount of space to run, explore and make new furry friends.

  1. Posh Amenities

A part of the CityWay magic is the extraordinary amenities across the property. For instance, guests have full access to a neighborhood hub that includes a state-of-the-art theater, indoor lounge, gym and sports simulator. On any other normal Sunday, my boyfriend and I would be out on the golf course, but on this particular rainy morning, we were lucky to have had full access to the golf simulator to practice our swings. Seven stories above this social hub where we called home for the weekend, the new apartment tower offers spacious balconies for each unit that offer the most incredible views of the Circle City. Each apartment has state of the art safety features, appliances and cabinets as well as impressively spacious rooms, facilities and closets. One of the most impressive offerings, in my opinion, is the 24/7 room service available to all residents (this would be quite dangerous, and useful, for someone like me that’s a rookie in the kitchen).

  1. Pristine Spaces

What sets the CityWay neighborhood apart from any other I’ve experienced, is the opportunity to be delighted and surprised around every corner, literally. The intentional effort to make art and discovery notable features of the resident experience is truly exceptional, it’s almost as if the community is a living art museum. Spaces, both those you expect (like exterior building walls) and those you don’t expect (like the interior parking garage walls), are activated by the likes of graffiti-inspired muralist, Nick Walker, whose most notable design, a 140-foot mural depicting “Love Conquers All” on the CityWay Tower, adorns the skyline. Kelsey Montague’s lively murals literally, and figuratively, give flight to the facades and feature ornate butterflies and fireflies that encourage human interaction (who doesn’t love a social media moment?!). Traversing through the greenspaces, parks and paths, it’s easy to feel like you are visiting an exclusive resort with the kindest and most welcoming Hoosier neighbors abound.

In summary, the perfect location, premier attractions, posh amenities and pristine spaces certainly inspire a way of living that I previously could have only imagined. I’m convinced, now more than ever, the CityWay of living has inspired my Indy way of living, and I hope it inspires yours as well.

Meet our October Pet of the Month, Slinky!!

This cutie recently joined our community and we have been swooning over him ever since! Read more about him below!

Favorite place to explore in CityWay?
He really loves seeing the art on the walls, and we really love to take cute pictures of him with it. Another place he really likes is the outdoor barbecue area. We brought him there last weekend, and he loves seeing the neighbors and the other dogs. Since he doesn't have all his shots yet, he doesn't go to the pet areas. However, I'm pretty sure he is super excited to go there because he keeps admiring it from the window.

How long have you lived here, in what floor plan and favorite place to chill in the house?
We have been living here for only 3 months, but we are enjoying it very much. We are in a Saffron Townhome. His favorite place to chill is the living room, we did a little area for him over there with a bed, a lot of toys, etc. He loves it!

Favorite activity?
He loves to run around. When we let him out of his crate he starts running though our living room. It's the cutest thing ever!!!

Thank you for sharing! Slinky sure is cute and we can't wait until he is old enough to try out our two new dog parks!! Interested in featuring your pet? Email [email protected]!

Whether you’re new to apartment living or you have lived in an apartment for years, there are plenty of life hacks that help apartment dwellers feel comfortable and organized in their apartment. Read on to check out a few of our favorite reminders to maximize apartment living.

Our top priority is to focus on organization. Even with maximum storage opportunities in your apartment, you should capitalize on every space available to store your items. You will be more comfortable and utilize your apartment space when every item in your apartment is stored appropriately. Buy drawer and cabinet organizers for your apartment home, specifically in the kitchen and bathroom. You want to clear your countertops to feel less cluttered and make apartment cleaning easy.

While in the bathroom, use towel hooks as an easy hack to use less space and keep your towel off the ground. If your apartment doesn’t already come with towel hooks, you can get these inexpensively. Style tip: if you have a towel rack, hang decorative towels here and separately hang your shower towels on hooks to avoid clutter.

Looking to live apartment life comfortably? Use either a white noise machine or a fan to keep out noise from neighbors or traffic depending on where you live. Even in the quietest apartment communities, this is a life saver and will result in better sleep and more relaxation in your apartment.

Lastly, utilize under bed storage containers. Fill these with clothes you don’t wear frequently and easily slide the container under your bed. This will free space in your apartment closet and help maximize every square foot in your floor plan.

We hope you are enjoying apartment life! If you ever need anything else to feel comfortable in your apartment home, let our leasing team know and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.
